Germany-headquartered Logistics Company: Transform its IT Infrastructure through AMS

How Cloud Comrade helped the regional customer overcome business and technology challenges

Cloud Comrade helped a regional logistics services provider transform its IT infrastructure through AMS, enabling it to scale into 5 new markets.

The customer experienced super growth during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, their on-prem infrastructure could not scale to support the growing demand and wasn’t agile enough to support its innovation and business expansion worldwide. This was due to rising costs from operating an on-premises data center, given increasing data volume and analytics use cases. Some of their hardware was also obsolete. The data center environment lacked security and access controls, and there was no standard process or guidelines when it comes to deploying these data resources. Moreover, billings were not consolidated, leading to gaps in reporting.

Cloud Comrade helped the customer scale by moving from on-prem to AWS cloud, providing support and helping it capture cost optimisation opportunities. Before, the customer stored multiple apps in over 40 silo accounts on their data center with no visibility into resources being used, leading to resource wastage and forgotten accounts. With AMS provided through Cloud Comrade, they now have a single pane of view for billing and accounts. The project was a success in Singapore and Cloud Comrade helped the customer to subsequently roll it out across other countries such as South America, South Africa, India, etc.

Cloud Comrade spearheaded innovation efforts at a customer level across the region

A cloud specialist with proven expertise and established experience, Cloud Comrade helped the customer capture innovation opportunities and scale its business by modernising its IT infrastructure with AMS.

Their on-prem infrastructure couldn’t scale to support growing demand and was not agile enough to support its business expansion worldwide. Cloud Comrade did a detailed assessment of the customer needs and pain points, before helping it to build AMS landing zones on which different IT infrastructures from acquired organizations can be easily integrated as they acquired these businesses globally.

Using AWS Cloudformation, Cloud Comrade helped the customer shorten its Recovery Time Objective (RTO). This was achieved by simulating disaster recovery from a different AWS Region and empowering them with backups in other regions in case one fails. The customer now has better confidence in the deployment of the solution as they received support from AMS Operations on how to manage the transition. Moreover, AMS out-of-box security and compliance helped them meet each country’s compliance standards, achieving 98% global IT compliance.

Results

The migration to AWS Cloud and implementation of AMS enabled the customer to save 30% of operations cost due to increased internal efficiency. Cloud Comrade leveraged AWS CloudFormation to optimise application delivery, reducing the time needed for delivering improvements for its customer-facing mobile application from weeks to days. Engineers now have time to focus on innovation; and this shortened the development time for new features by 20%. Cloud Comrade also helped to consolidate their billings on AWS Organizations, so that the customer can easily tracking their cost and usage data, thereby increasing their reporting efficiency. Besides minimizing their reporting gap at no additional cost, they can now take advantage of volume pricing discounts and savings plans to lower their TCO further.
